Patrick began to experiment in go-karts at 10 years of age where he showed he was fast and competitive. After 8 years in this discipline he took part in 1998 French Formula Campus championship in which he came 3rd in the standings. A year later he went to the French F3 but without achieving any important result. In 200 he entered the German F3 and therefore from 2001 he took part in a number of seasons in the International Formula 3000 Championship. Friesacher matured and refined his driving style, achieving two wins and twice finishing fifth in the standings in the 2003 and 2005 seasons. In 2005 he made his F1 debut in Minardi, driven by much hope. Unfortunately his experience was a one hit wonder with a run of 11 races and he did not achieve any significant results (also due to the poor performance of the PS05 caused by the Bridgestone tyres), apart from his 6th place in the anomalous US Grand Prix disputed by only 6 cars. After the British Grand Prix, following problems with the sponsors that had allowed his signing, he was forced to give up his steering wheel to Dutchman Robert Doornbos. After having abandoned F1 he raced in the A1 Grand Prix series with the Austrian team without managing to stand out, while in 2008 he took part in the ALMS championship in the GT2 class.
