Historic Minardi Day 2020 in pursuit of Formula 1, the ACI Storico Festival and the Elegance Competition

The organizational machine of the Historic Minardi Day is already working at full speed to prepare the 5th edition which, as per tradition, will have as its home Imola’s Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit which will open the gates from Friday April 24, 2020.

There are many confirmations but there will be many new attractions, as Gian Carlo Minardi unveiled at the ACI Stand at the Padua Festival.

“The fact that we extended the event by one day is already a major development. Next year the engines of the Formula 1 and all the extraordinary cars that will come to Imola will be turned on starting from the Friday and they will only be turned off on Sunday April 26th,” said Gian Carlo Minardi.

“The other great development is represented by the participation of ACI Storico which will be our main partner through the ACI Storico Festival (ACI Historic Festival), a get together for all the ACI clubs in Imola. There will be no lack of occasions for meetings and conventions in a setting of fantastic cars and great enthusiasts. We must not forget that many historical races belong to ACI and that for some years it has started up many activities including Ruoti Nella Storia (History in wheels) in Italy’s most beautiful towns” in Italy’s,” continued the manager from Faenza.

“The fifth edition of the Historic Minardi Day will also be the stage for the first elegance competition dedicated to historical cars. Staying in the field of history, the “Savio Trophy” has been confirmed, as well as the non competitive outing in the hills of the Romagna.”

Amongst the new developments there will many confirmations. “The DNA of the event remains solid. The single ticket(which can be bought at the circuit-Ticketone) willgive access to the Circuit’s paddock, pits and terrace to be in direct touch with the racing cars and their protagonists. Last year we hosted 32 F1 racing cars for a trip through more than half a century of history to which were added many F2, F3, F Junior, Prototypes, Gran Turismo and Lancia Martini Racing which gave life to an extraordinary spectacle that recalled an exciting sound. In addition, many enthusiasts had the chance to experience the excitement of a lap of the Santerno Circuit aboard a Supercar of the calibre of the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio, Renault Alpine, Dallara Stradale, Lamborghini and Pagani.

“Our objective is to bring back to the Circuit the atmosphere of the paddock in the early years of Formula 1 be eliminating the barriers that risk keeping fans away. With the chance to give you an appointment for April I want to thank the more than 15,000 passionate fans that that literally invaded the paddock and the pits,” concluded Gian Carlo Minardi.

Gian Carlo Minardi “For the 2020 edition, which will be number 5, we decided to meet the requests of many of our passionate friends, both Italian and foreign, who every year come to Imola with their fantastic cars. They have the pleasure of being able to run more around the track and so we decided to make them happy by also adding the Friday. Therefore we await all the enthusiasts and fans from Friday April 24 to Sunday April 26″

Great success of the fourth edition of the Historic Minardi Day. More than 15,000 present over the two days. Patrese on the track

There was a sea of people at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Circuit, the stage of the fourth edition of the Historic Minardi Day that over the two days set a new crowd record.

In fact, over the two days more than 15,000 people the fans invaded the Santerno circuit’s pit lane and the pits for a trip over more than half a century of motorsport and Formula 1 history amongst 32 F1 racing cars, cars from F2, F3, Prototypes, Gran Turismo, Pagani and Lancia Martini Racing who also experienced the thrill of a lap aboard a Supercars such as Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia Quadrifoglio, Alpine and the Dallara Stradale of Andrea Levy, the President of the Parco Valentino Auto Salon scheduled for June 19th to 23rd in Turin.

There were many moments that will remain rooted in the history of the motor show event designed by Gian Carlo Minardi and brought to the track together with Formula Imola. These began with the exhibition of the cars that were protagonists of the F1 World Championship with an exceptional participant: Riccardo Patrese who went back at the wheel of the Renault powered Williams FW-14 with which the champion from Padua won successive grands prix in Mexico and Portugal together with 8 podium finishes, 4 pole positions and two fastest laps that earned him third place in the World Championship.
“

“It was an incredible feeling getting back behind the wheel of the car that gave me incredible results, one of which was the front row of the grid beside Ayrton Senna right here in Imola in the 1991 grand prix. The warmth of the fans was wonderful and I must congratulate Gian Carlo Minardi for having given life to this perfectly successful event with incredible machines. These events are even more beautiful than an F1 grand prix because they give all the fans the chance to come in touch with the cars and drivers, commented a satisfied Riccardo Patrese.

Many guests visited Imola with the warm participation of Roland Ratzenberger’s father and the notable participation of the F1 Grand Prix Drivers Club that was on centre stage in the Ayrton Senna conference room in which indelible episodes of motorsport history were remembered, together with the 1992 world vice champion, Emanuele Pirro, Alessandro Nannini, Pierluigi Martini, Luca Badoer, Fabrizio Barbazza, Moreno Roberto, Andrea Montermini, Luis Perez Sala, Paolo Barilla, Gabriele Tredozi former Technical Director for Team Minardi, Mauro Forghieri, Alex Caffi, Giovanni Lavaggi, Carlo Facetti, Gabriele Lancieri, Claudio and Gianni Giudice Angelo Ancherani, kart driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Francesco Bergomi, Roberto Del Castello, Farneti Roberto, Giorgio Francia, Bruno Giacomelli, Roberto Marazzi, Mauro Martini, Nicolò Piancastelli, Andrea Rosso, Enrico Toccacelo, Howden Ganley, Mario Theissen, Richard Attwood, Daniele Audetto, Derek Daly, Gery Brandstetter, Graham Gauld, Hans Herrmann, Teddy Pilette, David Piper, Jo Ramirez, Axel Schmidt, Marc Surer, Patrick Tambay, Jo Vonlanthen and Mike Wilds.

Pierluigi Martini, the driver who was the symbol of the team from Faenza with 109 grands prix raced with Minardi, took to the wheel of the Minardi M189, while Gabriele Tredozi, Minardi’s ex-Technical Director, drove the PS04 Cosworth. Alex Caffi performed with the Ensign N176, the racing car with which he won the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix Historique, twenty five years after retiring from the grands prix.

The Libreria dell’Automobile (Automobile Bookshop) was also successful with the public reaching its second edition with the presentation of extraordinary books by Pino Allievi, Mario Donnini, Paola Rivolta andUmberto Zapelloni, (Giorgio Nada Editore, publisher). After the Saturday that was marked by a splendid spring day, light rain was again seen in Imola this year but it did not dampen the warmth of the protagonists and the fans.

The Easyrain Project raised a lot of interest thanks to its patented anti-aquaplaning that drew the attention of the Motorsport World as already happened in the automotive world.

As per the tradition, the two days in Imola ended with the historic cars that were the protagonists of the Savio Circuit Trophy, the gara di regolarità classica event that was valid for the ACI Storico National Regolarità Trophy and Scuderia Nettuno’s Criterium dell’Appennino.

Gian Carlo Minardi “”A very important and surely positive edition closes and it rewarded us for the work done. We are growing step by step and we will continue working to improve the event. I must congratulate all the fans because it is not easy to find a polite public that respects the spaces and is aware they are walking in the presence of fantastic cars. It was great to see Riccardo Patrese at the wheel of the Williams. He got back into the game with the best times.

Uberto Selvatico Estense (President of Formula Imola): “It was a fantastic edition …with a great number of fans who invaded the Circuit’s paddock to see real four-wheeled treasures that made wrote the history of motorsport competitions driven by true giants of motorsport. The passion that is gradually consolidating a classic round of the international panorama of motoring events destined for a public of fans leads us to continue investing in this direction beside Gian Carlo Minardi and his team with an eye to the future with the intention of implementing the emotions on offer to those who come to visit our magnificent circuit. Stay tuned.

Historic Minardi Day | Is waiting for you at Imola on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April

The Historic Minardi Day, the festival created by Gian Caro Minardi and brought on track together with Formula Imola that knew how to rewrite the rules for sporting events by putting fans in the spotlight is coming back.

On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April at Imola’s Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit the Formula 1 cars that wrote the most important pages of the World Championship will come back onto the track for a journey into the history of International Motorsport together with racing cars from preparatory championships that shaped world champions and with a lot of space for prototypes, Gran Turismo cars and Supercars. In the 2018 edition six Pagani cars warmed the hearts of enthusiasts with a unique parade on the track led by its founder Horacio Pagani, as well as the debut of the Dallara Stradale with a number of hot laps together with the Lamborghinis, Maseratis and Alfa Romeos.

After the success of the previous editions the formula did not change with a single ticket (that can be bought at the circuit’s ticket office or via Ticketone) that will give access to the paddock, the terrace and the pits to see up close the racing cars, the drivers, engineers and the technicians at work on the vehicles as they make them ready to warm up the motors to take to the track. In addition, the ticket will let participants become an essential part of the festival by taking to the track in their own vehicles through Driving Experience (4 sessions on the Saturday and 4 sessions on the Sunday by filling in the form available on the official website), or to take to the track for a lap on board a sports car beside a professional driver and the test themselves on the simulators in the gaming area.

Last year we managed to cover nearly half a century of sporting competitions through 299 fantastic vehicles from collections around the world, of which 26 from F1, one of which was Pier Luigi Martini’s Tyrrell P34 on its debut together with many Minardis, Ferraris Tecnos, Fondmetals, Dallaras, Fittipaldis, Theodores, Marches and the Cooper T51 only to name a few. There were 110 racing cars from F2 and F3, 2012 GT and GTS cars, 42 vintage cars from the Wheels of history rally and 19 from the Savio Trophy. This year we expect 30 Formula 1 cars with a priceless tribute to Ayrton Senna 25 years after his death and the arrival of some LMP3s,” commented Gian Carlo Minardi who highlighted the strength of the Historic Minardi Day,

I wanted to bring back to Imola the atmosphere of my first years in F1 with the paddock and the pits open to the fans. All this was lost with the arrival of the computerized passes and today we have an F1 locked up behind the motor homes. We found a polite and passionate public and those who worked on the cars were excited by this formula because they too are overwhelmed by the festive atmosphere,” continued the manager from Faenza.

This year’s edition of the Historic Minardi Day will again be enhanced by the Gara di Regolarità Classica “Savio Trophy” that is valid for the National “ACI Storico” Regolarità National Trophy and the Criterion of the Apennines of the Scuderia Nettuno group. The route will start from Imola’s Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit and will wind its way through the province of Ravenna and follow part of the Savio Circuit that saw Enzo Ferrari win the 1923 edition as a driver. The route will pass through the hills of the Romagna and their wonderful towns, with the race concluding inside the Imola circuit.

9.000 people decree the success of the Historic Minardi Day with special guest Valtteri Bottas

Gian Carlo Minardi, together with Formula Imola and the Bandini Trophy managed to condense into a single weekend more than half a century of sporting competitions through historic racing cars which brought to the track of Imola’s Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit an exceptional parade of champions.

In the course of the two days 9,000 enthusiasts flocked the circuit next to the Santerno River to experience as protagonists an International weekend of Motorsport inside the circuit’s pits, paddock and track to meet pilots, technicians and cars from Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3, Formula 3000, Gran Turismo and Prototypes which wrote the most emotional pages of the four wheeled sporting history.

There were a number of emotional moments which particularly marked the third edition of the Historic Minardi Day, beginning with the arrival of Mercedes – AMG Petronas Motorsport’s driver Valtteri Bottas for a session with autograph hunters and a walk along pit lane together with Gian Carlo Minardi and Selvatico Estense, the Circuit’s President before taking to the wheel of the World Championship winning Mercedes WO7 to go to the medieval hamlet of Brisighella to receive the Bandini Trophy which this year celebrated its 25th edition. Amongst the prize winners were also ACI President and also FIA Vice President Angelo Sticchi Damiani, Aldo Costa designer of the F1 world championship car and Lewis Hamilton’s track engineer Riccardo Musconi, as well as Nick Heidfeld from Formula E who put on a display with his Mahindra Racing car in the streets of the hamlet.

On the Sunday Aldo Costa excited the crowd by making his debut at the wheel of a Formula 1 car when he took to the track in the Mercedes W07, the first racing car designed by the engineer from Parma who grew up in the ranks of the Minardi Team. The incredible voyage between the past, present and future brought together by Gian Carlo Minardi for its third edition, and which also had the participation of Toro Rosso, ended with the Mahindra Team which is the protagonist of the Formula E World Championship. The day ended with an extraordinary caravan made up of the more than one hundred vintage cars from the 1st Savio Circuit Trophy and the Wheels of History event in the parade lap of the Circuit.

Many personalities made a stop in Faenza for the Golf challenge between VIPs and drivers which began the three days of the event, beginning with Prisca Taruffi, Gabriele Tarquini, Gianni Morbidelli, Pierluigi Martini, Alessandro Nannini, Luca Badoer, Riccardo Patrese, Miguel Angel Guerra, Gabriele Lancieri, Sergio Campana, Emanuele Pirro, Paolo Barilla, Matteo Bobbi, Alex Caffi, Carlo Facetti, Roberto Ravaglia, the young Kart drivers Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Nicholas Pujatti, as well as engineers Gabriele Tredozi, Aldo Costa and Mauro Forghieri who was also the leading player of the presentation of his book “Capire la Formula 1” (Understanding Formula 1. The secrets of the evolution of Formula One from the 1960s to the present day) at the “Ayrton Senna” Conference Room. Also presenting books were journalist Pino Allievi with his “VITE DI CORSA Incontri in pista con piloti, manager, astronauti, cantanti, gente strana” (“LIFE OF RACING, Meetings on the track with drivers, managers, astronauts, singers, strange people), Mario Donnini with his “Formula 1 dal 1950 ad oggi” (Formula 1 from 1950 to today) – “Senna & Imola una storia nella storia” (Senna and Imola, a story in history) – “Mario Andretti Immagini di una vita” (Mario Andretti. Images of a life), as well as a presentation by the Scuderia Tazio Nuvolari of the book “Giorgio Lucchini – una vita per le corse” (Giorgio Lucchini – a life for racing) and driver Siegfried Stohr who brought to life his show “Piloti d’altri tempi” (Drivers of times gone by).

The fans stormed the pits of Alfa Romeo, Lamborhgini and Dallara Stradala who gave enthusiasts a lap of the Imola track, as did the Coloni Motorsport with its two seater racing car. In this setting of inestimable Supercars there was also the caravan of Pagani cars led by founder Horacio Pagani.

Gian Carlo Minardi: “It was an incredible and emotional weekend. I must thank all the participants for the passion which every year they bring to the Historic Minardi Day unique and incredible pieces that give us indescribable emotions and also the enthusiasts for the warmth they show us. It is not every year that we can host at the same time Valtteri Bottas, Aldo Costa at the wheel of a Mercedes F1 car and Formula E. I conclude with a big thank you to all the staff and the ex-Minardi volunteers. All that remains is to get to work on the fourth edition”.

Pier Giovanni Ricci (Director of the Circuit): “The success of the third edition of the Historic Minardi Day confirms how much the Imola Circuit is the perfect stage when we speak of motorsport, great emotions and the unmistakable sound of Formula 1 cars. I wish to thank Gian Carlo Minardi and Francesco Asirelli, the patron of the Bandini Trophy, for having brought us a champion of the calibre of Valtteri Bottas, a passage between past and present which we always experience with great passion. With a look towards the future as was also testified by the presence of the Mahindra car from Formula E, the sector of sustainable mobility on which we are betting with great commitment and conviction. I close with a big thank you to all the Formula Imola staff, the medical service, the track marshals, the security and fire fighting services, who all contribute substantially to the success of the events in a particularly challenging time. We are now ready for the Superbikes”.

The Historic Minardi Day celebrates the Champions of Motorpsort

Even the third edition of the Historic Minardi Day celebrates the Champions of Motorsport who will be present during the weekend beginning on Friday afternoon with the challenge between drivers and VIPs at Faenza’s ”Le Cicogne” Golf Club. This challenge will also have as protagonist rally driver Prisca Taruffi who is also a great enthusiast and champion of golf. She will also be at the Imola circuit on the Saturday.

During the long weekend in the pits of the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit we await many important names who contributed to the history of the team founded by Gian Carlo Minardi. People such as Pierluigi Martini who ran more than 100 grands prix with the team from Faenza including its debut race in the Brazil Grand Prix in 1985 with the M1985 and Alessandro Nannini, Alfa Romeo’s lead driver who debuted in F1 with the Minardi Team in 1986 and who also defended the colours in the following year before going to Benetton and winning the Japanese Grand Prix and who only last year spoke of the Minardi Day with these words “I love Gian Carlo Minardi. I raced for him for seven years (editor’s note: betweenF2 and F1) I could not be at the first edition but I have already reserved a place for 2018”. Promise kept!

Gianni Morbidelli will also be there on the Friday and Saturday. He came to Faenza in 1991 to drive the Ferrari powered M191 together with Pierluigi Martini and the year after in the M192 with the V12 Lamborghini engine before continuing his career with Arrows and Sauber. He was also Ferrari’s test driver when he substituted Alain Prost in the 1991 Adelaide Grand Prix,

Ferrari’s historic test driver Luca Badoer will be there on Sunday 6th. He drove for the Minardi Team in the 1995 and 1996 seasons and was already been a protagonist in the second edition. “I experienced fantastic years with Gian Carlo and am tied closely to him and to his team. I owe him a lot. It was a great event that not even rain ruined or stopped. I came as a guest but it would be fantastic to come back in racing overalls and helmet” was Luca’s comment last year.

Coming back to join us will also be Miguel Angel Guerra, Gian Carlo Minardi’s fist driver under contract, Tarso Marques, Luis Perez Sala, Roberto Moreno, Giovanni Lavaggi who will take to the track in his LMP1, as well as racing engineers Gabriele Tredozi (who has been present in all the editions with his PS04B) and Aldo Costa who will drive the Mercedes W04 on Sunday.

Together with the Minardi drivers will also be many of Gian Carlo’s friends who have written many important pages of motorsport history, amongst who are Riccardo Patrese 257 grands prix and 1992 Vice World Champion), Emanuele Pirro who last year saw his dream of driving a Minardi come true “I waited 55 years to drive a Minardi and I finally managed to do so. We are celebrating the story of a man and a team who wrote motorsport history, a story of passion, tenacity and challenging difficulties”, said the winner of five 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Historic Minardi Day | The third edition is born between confirmations and new developments

With the presentation of the 25th edition of the Bandini Trophy, which from this year will be part of the rich programme of the Historic Minardi Day, the countdown has begun for the third edition of the event to be held on May 4th – 6th at Imola’s Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Circuit which since 2016 has given passion back to thousands of fans of Formula 1 and motorsport.

There are many new developments that mark the whole international motoring weekend, but the DNA that for the last two years rewarded the event dreamed up by Gian Carlo Minardi and which won the 2017 Autosprint Magazine’s Golden Helmet award for the Best Motorsport event of the year, remains unchanged. Cars that wrote the most important and exciting pages of motorsport for a span of more than forty years, together with their leading players, are still the focal point for enthusiasts who will have the chance once more to have access to the paddock and the pits of the Imola Circuit to admire them up close and to meet the drivers and technicians.

CARS FROM FORMULA 1, F2, GP2, F300, F3 and GT on the track
The cars created by Gian Carlo Minardi and brought onto the track in the F1 world championship from 1985 to 2005 will “challenge each other” on the track with other racing cars that created the legend of the Circus, and which shaped champions, such as Mercedes, Ferrari, Benetton-Alfa Romeo, Arrows, Tecno, Dallara, Fondmetal, Surtees, Tyrrel P34, Theodore and Fittipaldi Automotive, as well as cars from F2, GP2, F3000 e F3, Formula Italia and Abarth. The intense weekend of activities will take to the track beginning at 9.00am on Saturday May 5th and the engines will run until Sunday May 6th with a parade of the vintage cars which will include those that take part in the Savio Circuit Trophy and the Wheels of History events, as well as the programme of appointments, get-togethers and encounters for enthusiasts of vintage cars, together with the Association “I Borghi più Belli d’Italia” (Italy’s most beautiful towns).

The 2013 WO4 designed by Aldo Costa will take to the track from the Mercedes – AMG Petronas Motorsport pit. This was the car that began the team’s extraordinary winning streak of four Constructors’ titles and just as many Drivers’ titles, three of which were won by Lewis Hamilton (2014-2015-2017) and Nico Rosberg in 2016. At the wheel will be Aldo Costa himself, the engineer from Parma on his debut at the wheel of an F1 car who grew up in the ranks of the Minardi Team together with another engineer, Gabriele Tredozi, who will drive the Minardi PS04B which he designed. Completing the presence of Mercedes–AMG Petronas Motorsport on the Saturday will also be driver Valtteri Bottas for a session signing autographs before going to Faenza’s Piazza del Popolo (at 4.15pm) before driving the W07 to Brisighella (at 5.15pm) to be awarded Lorenzo Bandini Trophy in a ceremony which will begin at 6.00pm at the Spada Amphitheatre.

The Gran Turismo cars and Prototypes with the Alfa Romeo, Lotus, Ferrari, Maserati, Lavaggi and Lucchini badges are not to be missed and they too will put on a show for the whole weekend in a number of sessions. The Scuderia Tazio Nuvolari will honour the talent of Giorgio Lucchini by bringing to the Circuit and onto the track many of the 150 sporting cars created by the constructor from Mantua that won 750 races, 2 world titles, as well as 34 track and 4 uphill titles and there will also be a display. At noon on Saturday Gianni Tomazzoni’s book “Giorgio Lucchini, una vita per le corse” (Giorgio Lucchini, a life for racing) will be launched at the “Ayrton Senna Conference Room” and will be the subject of many workshops during the entire weekend.

Since it is the Historic Minardi Day, an event for seekers of fun and after last year’s success, the “Come onto the track” formula will make its return. Participants will have the chance to take some laps of the circuit aboard a Supercar driven by professional drivers, as well as testing themselves in a virtual challenge on the driving simulators.

In addition, inside the pits there will be a display with a trip around the world of Formula 1 and technology “Past – Present – Future” with displays of racing cars labelled Minardi and Toro Rosso and Simulators which in recent years has changed how the cars are designed and developed following the abolition of track tests.

Golf tournament (Faenza – Friday May 4th)
VIPS and drivers will begin the motoring weekend when they fight out a Louisiana Golf challenge which is open to all participants in the Historic Minardi Day and within a frame of the public (entry is free) beginning at 2.30pm on Friday May 4th at Faenza’s Le Cicogne Golf Club.

LORENZO BANDINI TROPHY (Saturday May 5th – Brisighella)
Finn driver Valtteri Bottas of reigning world champion team “Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport” will be the driver awarded at Brisighella on the afternoon of Saturday May 5th in the 2018 edition of the trophy dedicated to the Ferrari driver who passed away in 1967 which this year reaches its 25th edition and whose ceremony will begin at 6.00pm. A special and exclusive trophy will be awarded to ACI President and FIA Vice President Angelo Sticchi Damiani whose prestigious presence combines perfectly Italian Motorsport with the international image of the weekend’s events which highlight Motor Valley.
Among the winners are Aldo Costa the engineer who designed the F1 World Champion car and Riccardo Mosconi, track engineer for champion driver Lewis Hamilton’s who complete Mercedes–AMG Petronas Motorsport’s formidable presence which, for the joy of the many enthusiasts, will make available two F1 racing cars, the 2013 W04 and the 2016 W07.
