5000 enthusiasts at the Imola Circuit formalize the success of the second edition of the Historic Minardi Day

It was an edition of the Historic Minardi Day that showed itself stronger than the weather. Not even the rain managed to dampen the enthusiasm of the five thousand passionate fans that went to Imola’s Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit to live a full weekend dedicated to motorsport and the team from Faenza.

On Saturday and Sunday more than twenty five Formula 1 racing cars which included not only historic Minardi cars but also Ferrari, Williams, Dallara, Fondmetal and about thirty F2, F3 and GT cars took turns at racing around the track that was the stage for more than forty years of racing history. The paddock and the pits were invaded by passionate fans from all around Italy together with Team founder Gian Carlo Minardi and racing drivers who wrote important pages of motorsport history such as Pierluigi Martini, Luca Badoer, Gaston Mazzacane, Roberto Moreno, Giovanni Lavaggi, Alessandro Nannini, Emanuele Pirro, Andrea Montermini, Gabriele Tarquini, Nicola Larini and Riccardo Patrese who were also protagonists of the Golf match on Friday that was the prologue to the weekend.

A weekend of motorsport, music and show business with the presence ontrack of the Roman singer songwriter Max Gazzè who was the protagonist of the Live Music Show on Saturday evening who shared with Gian Carlo Minardi one of the event’s most emotional moments at the wheel of a Lamborghini powered M192. At 11.30am the manager from Faenza made his debut at the wheel of a Minardi racing car owned by Dutch collector Fritz Van Eerd and completed a lap at low speed of the whole Imola circuit accompanied by the warm applause.

“I think I made an Imola track record with the slowest ever lap by car,” joked Gian Carlo Minardi as soon as he left the car, “I must thank my friend Fritz who made everything available for me from the car to the helmet, It was a beautiful and emotional gift. At 70 years of age and with slicks on a wet track I realized a dream that I had delayed for too long. I must thank all the collectors and drivers for all the affection and warmth they showed, together with that of the fans. One aim of the Historic Minardi Day was to bring families back to the track and to bring them closer to what for me is the most beautiful sport. The aim was achieved in spite of the bad weather and rain.”

“Thanks too to the presence of my friend Max Gazzè who despite the terrible weather conditions entertained us with great music on Saturday evening and who shared the atmosphere of the pits for the whole weekend.”

“Of all my concerts, I will always remember Gian Carlo Minardi’s congeniality who, in a surreal ambiance, moved to the rhythm of the music under an umbrella,” was the Roman singer songwriter’s comment.

“Despite the weather not helping the event there were really many enthusiasts who took part in the second Historic Minardi Day. It’s a sign that when we speak about Formula 1, whether historical or current, the Imola circuit brings back memories that always live in the minds and the hearts of those who love this sport. I want to thank the Minardi family for having made us live these emotions and I hope that this event will become even more an irrevocable appointment on the calendar of the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit,” said Pier Giovanni Ricci (Circuit Director).

There were positive reactions from the protagonists “I waited 55 years to drive a Minardi and I finally managed to do it. We are celebrating the story of a man and a team that wrote pages of motorsport history, a history of passion, tenacity and challenging difficulties. It was an incredible weekend. I hope it becomes a permanent appointment in the future,” said an enthusiastic Emanuele Pirro.

After 17 years Gaston Mazzacane, a protagonist of the 2000 season together with Marc Genè once more took to the wheel of a Minardi M02. “It was a dream to come back to Imola and drive a Formula 1 car. I had the same emotions as then. Congratulations to the Minardi family. It was a sensational event. The quality and numbers of cars were incredible,” said the Argentinean driver.

“I love Gian Carlo Minardi. I raced for him seven years,” said an unmistakeable and sarcastic Alessandro Nannini who was also the protagonist of the Golf match at Faenza’s Le Cicogne Golf Club. “Last year I could not be here but I have already booked a place for the 2018 edition,” concluded the ace from Siena.

“With Gian Carlo Minardi I experienced fantastic years and I am tied to him and the team in a special way. I owe him a lot. It was a great event which not even the rain ruined or stopped. I came as a guest but next year it would be fantastic to come back in a driving suit and helmet,” declared Luca Badoer who is now committed to following his son in his first steps in kart racing.

The Historic Minardi Day also invaded the hills and medieval towns surrounding Imola and Faenza with a caravan of over thirty historic road cars in the Minardi Classic.

Historic Minardi Day 2017 | Minardi “We have done something new to bring the fans closer.”

A week before the Historic Minardi Day at Imola’s Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit (Saturday May 6th and Sunday May 7th) we caught up with the event’s creator, Gian Carlo Minardi.

We studied the Historic Minardi Day of bringing the enthusiasts closer to the world of motor sport. Only their support will tell us if we have taken the right road,” said the manager from Faenza, “ Our DNA is the open wheels and we have had a great response with many racing cars from the 70s-80s- and 90s which will take to the track together with other vehicles, but it will be interesting to enter the pits to personally touch the sport meeting drivers, engineers and personalities that have written the most important pages of the world championship,” continued Minardi.

A weekend for the whole family “We have created a varied programme suitable for all ages. Motors, and also music thanks to our friends Max Gazzè who will be one of the protagonists on stage with the Live Music Show.” Tickets are on sale at the circuit and TicketOne.it.

As well as the Formula 1 racing cars there will also be classic and vintage cars “We will bring to the track spectacular cars with incredible sporting achievements such as the Alfa Romeo 33 of the 1970s. There will be two days of sport in the open air.”

Gian Carlo minardi and the Minardi Team will be waiting for you at Imola beginning at 9.00am on Saturday May 6th until 6.30pm on Sunday May 7th.

Historic Minardi Day | Motors and Music meet at Imola

“I planned the Historic Minardi Day on the format I would like to see in Formula 1. An “open door” F1 in direct contact with the public. At Imola all the enthusiasts and fans will be able to see and touch the racing cars, meet the drivers and their favourites but above all once again hear the historic sounds of the powerful Formula 1 cars. During the press conference for the Australian Grand Prix Chris Horner – Red Bull’s team principal– said that the most beautiful sound of the entire weekend in Melbourne came from a twelve year old car, a Minardi PS05 despite the fact that at the time it was not competitive. At Imola it will be possible to hear them once more.”

Gian Carlo Minardi “The Historic Minardi Day is ready to grow while keeping its roots firmly planted in the ground. As we saw last year cars, motorsport and enthusiasts will be the heart and soul of the two days at Imola’s Circuit. I am happy to have with us the cars and such prestigious clubs as C.R.A.M.E. which will give further vitality to the Minardi Classic. Last year I had great pleasure seeing the paddock and boxes invaded by young people and families. In addition to doubling the number of days we have enriched the programmes with a number of initiatives amongst which is the Live Music Show, as well as the return of the driving simulators.”

The new F1 faces. Minardi "A historic day"

It is a historic day for the world of Formula 1. Liberty Media has completed its acquisition, and Chase Carey is the new F1 boss. He replaces Bernie Ecclestone (Honorary President) who is forced to leave the control of his “toy” after 40 years. Unfortunately, this moments are part of life, I lived the same experience in 2005 with the arrival of the new ownership in Faenza.

If Formula 1 exists today, it is thanks to the intuition and to capacity of Mr. E. that now has the chance to see the world championship with new eyes. For this very reason, he can still be very helpful to the cause.

With pleasure I read that on the agenda there are some topics that I have faced since some time, and Ross Brawn’s arrival is a positive signal. For some while, I have stated that F1 has to be managed by specialists with some experience on te field, but not involved with the teams. I agree with Brawn when he points it finger at the current power-units because I am sure it is a technology more suitable for prototypes and for endurance. The sprint races shall be the major expression of velocity and of competition with tyre-to-tyre struggle. Regarding this issue, FIA has required commissioners to be more permissive. To do this, it is important to have the same team in each circuit. Decisions must be objective and not subjective ( as it happened too many time in the last few years).

The new management will have a not easy task, the fruits of which will be visible in some years. It will be a slow process. Marketing will have to attract new sponsors and fire up the passion in every fan.

#HistoricMinardiDay | Space to Classic Cars

On 6-7 May 2017, at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari in Imola, the appointment with the history of the Minardi Team and of Motorsport will be renewed.
The organizational machine of the Historic Minardi Day is at work to arrange the second edition, after the success of last 25 June with seven thousand fans crowding Santerno’s pits and grandstands.

The formula of the first edition is confirmed with the paddock and the pits – along with the grandstands – open to the fans and aficionados that will have the chance to see and touch many cars and single-seaters that wrote important pages of motorsport. The main point of the event, once again, will be the single-seaters of Formula 1 that were built in 20 years by the stable from Faenza, along with the cars that made this sport great.

Last June, the Ferraris of Alesi, Prost, Capelli, and Niki Lauda were back to roar along with The Williams , 1980’s World Champion , the 1972’s Techno, the March-BMW and the Dallara’s F3s,The Renault F2000, the Ralt F3000, the Chevron-Toyota, and many other Grand Touring cars. More than 60 cars were displayed.

The main newness, along with the fact that the event will take place on two days, will be the strong presence of amazing classic cars from the 60s and the 70s. In addition, on F1 cars side, we are receiving an incredible number of registrations“, comments Gian Carlo Minardi. “We also satisfied the request coming from our fans by scheduling the event on Saturday and Sunday. We added a little bit of charm in choosing as the date for the second edition of the Historic Minardi Day the traditional weekend of the Grand Prix in San Marino”.

Save the Date | The Historic Minardi Day redoubles

After last June’s success that attracted more than seven thousand fans into the Enzo and Dino Ferrari in Imola, the preparations for the second edition of the Historic Minardi Day have already begun.

We renew the appointment with the history of the Minardi Team and Motorsport among the kerbs of the Santerno’s track that gave us a journey 30 years long, making us taste the flavours and the sounds of the V8, V10, and V12 coming from the 80s, from the 90s and from 2000s, ten years after the last F1 Grand Prix.

More than fifty single-seaters from Formula 1, along with Grand Touring cars, Formula 2, Formula 3, and F3000 animated the first edition, along with team-principal Carlo Minardi, the drivers, and the engineers that took part in the stable from Faenza. Miguel Angel Guerra, the first driver who raced under the colors of the Minardi Team in Formula 2, the Italians, Paolo Barilla, Giancarlo Fisichella, Giovanni Lavaggi, Pier Luigi Martini, Gianni Morbidelli, Jarno Trulli, Matteo Bobbi and Thomas Biagi, the Brazilian Tarso Marques, and the Spanish Adrian Campos and Sala Luiz Perez, along with engineers Gabriele Tredozi and Aldo Costa. They all signed autographs, took pictures, answered to fan’s questions, and brought the collectors’ F1 Minardi cars on track. It was also a success the exposition “From Minardi to Torio Rosso” with 39 cars deployed for a “walk” into the “made in Faenza” Motorsport world. It began with the first F2 cars built by Gian Carlo Minardi, then the M185, the first F1 Minardi that made its debut on 5 April 1985 in Brazil and the Minardi PS05, closing with the whole Toro Rosso car selection, till the STR 10.

The first innovation for 2017 is the doubling of the days. The engines of the Historic Minardi Day will turn on on Saturday May 6 and will turn off on Sunday May 7.

After the good feedback of June, we decided to grow with two days devoted to the Historic Minardi Day, bringing forward the event, in May. Once again, we celebrate the sports cars that wrote important pages of this sport with many Formula 1 cars and much more – Gian Carlo Minardi explains – the format remains the same. The Paddock and the pits will be open to the fans that will have the chance to touch the cars ready to go on track, and to meet up with their favorite drivers. Last year, we had many young people and I was very pleased, it was definitely a counter-trend if we think to what is happening to the F1 world championship. A significant signal”.

In the upcoming weeks, we will announce all the new features of the Historic Minardi Day. Let’s start highlighting the event on the calendar: 6 and 7 May 2017, at the Circuit of Imola– Second Edition of the Historic Minardi Day.

A lot of emotions for almost five thousand aficionados in the central grandstand who watched the single-seaters from the Scuderia from Fanza hurtling along with cars from Ferrari, williams , Tecno, March-BMW Schitzer, Chevron-Toyota, and many others. A lot of emotions in the pits where fans had the chance to closely watch mechanics at works on the single seaters, the ignition of engines and the entrance into the pit-lane , but also the exhibition “From Minardi to Toro Rosso”. More than 30 cars lined up for a “walk” into the Motorsport world “made in Faenza” : from the first Formula 2 cars built by Gian Carlo Minardi up to the M185, the first Minardi F1 that debuted in 1985, April, 5th in Brazil, up to the Minardi PS05 and the STR 10.

Gian Carlo Minardi: “I am satisfied and touched. A day devoted to sport and to fans where I had the pleasure to see again many drivers who have wrote, with me, important pages of the Minardi Team history. The strong feedback of the audience with a great participation both in grandstand and in the paddock is the most beautiful side. I was glad to see the paddock animated by many young people. I got moved when, along with all the drivers, I greeted the people in the central grandstand. The Hystoric Minardi Day has been the occasion to retrace 30 years of passion, making a time travel, also with technic. It is surely an experience to repeat. I must thank everybody for their warm welcome”.

Pier Giovanni Ricci (General Manager of the Circuit):  “A wonderful day made up by emotions that appear strongly when we talk about Formula 1 in Imola. The duo Circuit-Minardi was the trump card of this event. They are both symbols of two close lands that were able to express these two peaks. A come back to a recent past in which Gian Carlo Minardi’s stable as got a prestigious place in F1 history with “his” drivers that were present at this great party. I want to thank the so many fans that did not miss this event and challenged such a scorching temperature: probably the passion was even more fiery”.

Historic Minardi Day | Seven good reasons to come to Imola

Are you bored of usual F1 entrenched in its super-armored and unattainable mega-motorhomes? Are you bored of a F1 not engaging and too silent? The answer is the Historic Minardi Day that is getting ready to crowd the “Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit” in Imola next Saturday June, 25th at 9.00, for a whole day devoted to all fans. More than 70 cars will animate a unique show, with a lot of action on track, and even more in the paddock with exhibitions, simulators, and much more. We have found 7 good reasons…

1) The sound of F1 golden years
Formula 1 coming from the era of the Turbo and of the V10 and V12 engines roars again in Imola. We will have 17 single-seaters from the World Championship that will go around in Imola. Along with the Tecno 1972, the Williams FW07 1980’s World Champion, Alain Prost’s Ferrari, Jean Alesi’s Ferari, and Ivan Capelli’s Ferrari. Ten single-seaters from the Minardi Team will do the honors, starting from the Minardi M186 Motori Moderni up to 2005’s Minardi, retracing this way more than 30 years in Formula 1.
The engines will turn on at 9.00 am with the first laps on track performed by Grand Touring cars, forerunners for the single-seaters from Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3, and formula 3000 for a show that will finish only at 18.30 pm.

2) Formula 1 cars “at your fingertips” for a unique time travel
From 9.00 am, the Paddock gates will be opened to all the fans and aficionados (entrance fee 10 euro, free for aged under 12), to closely see the cars of the Minardi Team and of the Toro Rosso Stable. Alongside the 31 single-seaters from Faenza (starting from the Minardi M185 that made its debut into F1 World Championship in the Brazilian Gran Prix with Piero Martini, up to Verstappen-Sainz jr.’s STR10). We will find exhibited the little FIAT 500 of 1972 with which Gian Carlo Minardi won the first Italian Championship as a Sport Director of the Scuderia del Passatore, the Minardi F2 of 1982, and the Ferrari F201, Constructors’ World Champion with Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello.

3) “Face to face” with the drivers
Walking in the paddock, we will encounter the team principal Gian Carlo Minardi and his “boys” that took part in the stable from Faenza in its 35 years history. From Argentinian Miguel Angel Guerra, the first driver who has raced under the colors of the Minardi Team in Formula 2 up to the Italian Paolo Barilla, Giancarlo Fisichella, Giovanni Lavaggi, Pier Luigi Martini, Gianni Morbidelli, Alessandro Nannini, Jarno Trulli. The Brazilian Tarso Marques, the Spaniard Adrian Campos and Sala Luis Perez. The Portuguese Pedro Lamy, and test-drivers that alternated on Gian Carlo Minardi’s cars, among the others Davide Rigon, Gabriele Lancieri, Matteo Bobbi, and Thomas Biagi.

4) Challenge your friends
Do you feel yourself as a real World Champion? You must challenge your friends at the wheel of GT Challenge and F1 simulators. The more capable driver will have the emotion to go on Imola’s track inside a real Lamborghini Huracan beside a professional driver.

5) Lots of music and Street-food
We all know Emilia Romagna is the land of motors but also of good cuisine. Thus, we have set an area devoted to Street-food where we will have the chance to taste different flavors, drinking a good beer. We will have also a lot of music, the dj-set in pure Red Bull style fun.

6) A space for technology
There will also be room for the new technologies “made in Emilia Romagna” and for motorbike fans thanks to the participation of “Energica Motor Company”. The company from Modena will exhibit its electrical motorbikes models Ego and Eva. The last, an electrical streetfighter that reaches 200 km/h, has just been presented publicly and will be at disposal for programmed test drive.

7) The comfort in getting to Imola
Reaching the “Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit” of Imola is not like to climb Mount Everest! It is very comfortable by train (the station is 3,5 km away from the entrance) and by car (A14 Exit Imola). A circuit that is part of the history of Motorsport, a day not to be missed.

You are ALL invited!
